Breaking Down Compensatory picks For the Ravens

The NFL announced the Compensatory Picks that were given out to teams and of the 32 total picks awards, the Baltimore Ravens received two. According to the story on BaltimoreRavens.com, the team will receive the 130th and 169th selections, the first at the end of the fourth round and the second at the end of the fifth round. The Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers and New York Jets tied for getting the most Compensatory Picks, with four each.
The determination of who gets what is based on the net result of the players you lose in free agency along with the ones you sign to replace them. That means when Baltimore lost CB Josh Wilson, guard Chris Chester and safety Dawan Landry, the Ravens would have received three picks had they not signed anyone as a free agent.
The Ravens then signed FB Vonta Leach and later LT Bryant McKinnie and safety Bernard Pollard. There were other players that were signed and others let go to sign with other teams. Overall, the Ravens now have eight draft picks, since they had already traded this year's fourth round pick to the Buffalo Bills for WR Lee Evans. Of course, depending on what the Ravens decide to do when they get to the NFL Draft, that number could go up,...or down.
