Top Ranks Yuriorkis Gamboa (21-0, 16 KO's)was a no-show at a
press conference in Miami to announce his scheduled fight with
undefeated lightweight (135 lbs.) Brandon Rios (29-0-1,
22 KO) on April 14th.
Gamboa, the undefeated former WBA and IBF featherweight (126
lbs) world champion, was set to make his lightweight debut against Rios on
HBO. And for some reason, where there's controversy in boxing.......... There's always room for Floyd Mayweathers name. Rumors have surfaced that undefeated boxing superstar has signed to Mayweather Promotions. This would be a great acquisition for Mayweather, but bad business dealings that will never be forgiven.
Mayweather gave praise to Gamboa and WBO super featherweight (130 lbs) world
champ Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO) a few days ago during his press tour while
promoting his upcoming May 5 battle against Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO).
Mayweather's feelings towards Top rank have been highly-publicized and some may consider it unprofessional business practice on the side of the Mayweather camp.
Still there's the legal side of Mayweather signing Gamboa. Which is very questionable unless Mayweather can
buy out Gamboa's contract.
Until word is confirmed, the reason behind Gamboa's absence at the press
conference with Rios is unknown, as any rumors of signing with Mayweather
Promotions are just speculation.
**************** UPDATE.....................03/06/12..................UPDATE**********************
Gamboa missed another promo event today. This will cost Mr. Gamboa. Guaranteed.
